From Crisis to Hope: Together We Can Rebuild

Winston Churchill once said,

"In every crisis lies great opportunity for change and growth. Together, we can transform despair into hope and rebuild a brighter future."

That's what we are seeking to do for our children since they have been displaced from their home due to gang violence - "transform despair into hope and rebuild a brighter future." They were living in crisis, unable to attend school, hiding out at another location, afraid for their lives. Too many times they had to flee up the mountain while hearing gunfire behind them, literally fearing for their lives, unsure of what the future would hold. Days led to weeks, which led to months hiding in the mountains with very little in their possession. Our folks did the best they could to keep life as normal as possible, but there was the constant fear that they wouldn't be able to get food and water. 

Then, the miraculous evacuation! 

In a matter of a few days, we were presented with an opportunity to relocate to a safer place further north, away from the heavy gang violence. In a matter of a few hours, our children went from crisis to hope! Our children finally feel safe again. They can rest at night without fear of what might happen. They have regular meals and a warm, clean bed. They can attend school again. They are getting settled into a new routine, and we are making plans for the future.

While our hosts have been so gracious to welcome us and accommodate us when there really wasn't much room to do so, we are faced with some big decisions about the future. We don't necessarily know how long we will be here and if/when it will be safe enough to return home; but we will be here for the foreseeable future so we are seeking to do what is best for our children. As of now, it looks like building will be our best option long term. There is hope and opportunity in Gonaives that has been lacking for a long time in Cabaret. 

Our Giving Tuesday and Year End Giving campaigns are focusing on all that will be needed to rebuild in this new place. We are seeking to raise $150,000 for those efforts - a lofty goal, but we serve a big God! Please join us in prayer and hopeful expectation of peace in Haiti; and consider how the Lord might be leading you to be involved before this year is over.
